Cleared for Departure

Series 18 – Now Departing

One thing about living in Brooklyn: Getting to JFK is certainly easier and cheaper. By rail in particular. Still not worth living in Brooklyn though.

For your viewing pleasure, I have rented a medium format camera and several lenses. Medium format is code for “very expensive” and “mucho pixels.” Their combined cost to purchase is roughly half the U.S. median salary. I’ve had to step up my game since iPhones take really good pictures now. A regular old Canon or Nikon just won’t do anymore. You deserve better.

Today, Saturday, 4/19, is a travel day. It’s a 12 hour flight, direct from JFK. Napping will be the priority. We arrive around 230 PM local time. Hawaii is 6 hours behind the east coast.

We are spending two nights in Waikiki, a fairly well-known part of Honolulu. You might of heard of it. Easter Sunday we spend the whole day at Pearl Harbor.

After two sleeps, it’s off to Kauai, the garden isle, which is where we’ll be for the remainder of the trip. We are staying in the northern town of Hanalei. There we are doing lots of things, like a scenic flight over the island, ATV tour, botanical garden tour, chocolate farm tour, and (probably) a mixology class promising to teach us the best Mai-tai recipe. Of course I’ll tell you everything I learn.

We’re rolling onto runway 2 2 R, so we must be cleared for departure. Looks like we depart to the south, with a u-turn and eventually left turn west. Hawaii is a small spot of land in a really big ocean. I sure hope we don’t miss it. It’s an additional 4000 miles till Japan.

We’ll talk again Monday. From Delta 636, good day and Happy Easter.
